Darkening Stars, the debut solo album from Columbus Ohio native, Joe Peppercorn, is a 14 song celestial meditation on life and death in the wake of becoming a parent. Stepping away from the music scene for nearly a decade in order to be a stay at home parent during the day and bartender at night throughout the Obama era, Peppercorn returns in top form here with songs that expand on the complex Beatlesque chord changes and hefty melodies of the Whiles, and add a mature lyrical depth that recalls equally Kris Kristofferson and Leonard Cohen.
